REGIONAL AWARDS

Each year, the members of our Southwest Region are asked to evaluate our hard working fellow members and make nominations for appropriate awards. Nominations are due by February 25, 2008, and will be reviewed by the regional awards committee and presented to the regional board for consideration. Presentation of the awards is made at the next Southwest Regional Conference.


Regional Lifetime Membership

This award is for Human Resources professionals who have retired or are about to retire, and who have made outstanding contributions to their institutions, to CUPA-HR and/or to the Southwest Region. The committee should be notified about any retirements that occurred in the year prior to the region’s annual spring conference.

 

Award Criteria:

  • Human Resources professional who has retired during the past year or is about to retire;
  • Outstanding contributions to the individual's institution;
  • Outstanding contributions to CUPA-HR and/or the Southwest Region.

Southwest Academy Membership

The purpose of this award is to recognize and honor those Human Resource professionals who have made significant contributions to higher education.

Award Criteria:

  • Active participation in the Southwest Region's affairs for at least five (5) years ;
  • Has made a significant and meaningful contribution over a number of years to the cumulative knowledge and stature of the Human Resource profession;
  • An acknowledged leader in the Human Resource profession in higher education.

The Roadrunner Award

The purpose of this award is to identify and recognize a Human Resource professional who is a positive role model having made significant contributions(s) to the profession, his/her campus and/or CUPA-HR. A significant contribution may include something innovative, service connected, creative, etc.

The process for this award is by the CUPA-HR Chapter or a CUPA-HR member institution nominating one or more individuals for consideration by the regional awards committee. If more than one person is nominated by a state, the regional awards committee will make the selection based on written information submitted.

Award Criteria:

  • Positive role model;
  • Significant contribution(s) to the profession, his/her institution, and/or CUPA-HR that may be innovative, service-oriented and/or creative.

The Hugh Avery Award of Distinction

The purpose is to identify a member of the Southwest Region for an award that in named after Hugh Avery, a former leader in the University Human Resource Profession. This individual will be judged to have met the high level of personal attributes and human resource professional standards set by Hugh Avery.

Award Criteria:

  • Long-term continued involvement in Southwest Region activities;
  • Demonstrated history of Southwest Region leadership;
  • Long-term Extraordinary practitioner of the Human Resource profession;
  • Sense of humor;
  • Deep concern for the rights of all humans.

Excellence in Human Resource Practices Award

This award honors the achievements of college and university human resource professionals or teams at CUPA-HR member institutions in improving the quality of programs and services on their own campuses through effective human resource administration practices. Preference will be give to those achievements that have become or have the potential to become models for best practices for all of higher education human resources. Each regional board will select a nominee for submission to the National Recognition Awards Committee. The national committee will then select an overall winner from among the nominees. Nominations for the Excellence in Human Resource Practices Award must be submitted to the nominee’s regional board.
