2010 Awards, Scholarships and Grants

Southern Region Distinguished Service Award
The Distinguished Service Award is designed to recognize that member of the CUPA-HR Southern Region who most exemplifies distinguished service to the human resources profession and to CUPA-HR. To be nominated, the individual must:
- Have been a member of the Southern Region for at least five years and have provided distinguished service to the organization by serving on regional or national committees, the Southern Region Board, or as a national officer;
- Have publications related to HR administration or have participated as a conference speaker or coordinator at the regional or national level; and
- Have demonstrated organizational ability by planning or assisting in the planning of regional or national CUPA-HR conferences and must have a continuous record of attending CUPA-HR conferences.
Southern Region Excellence in Human Resource Practices Award
This award honors the achievements of college and university human resource professionals or teams at CUPA-HR member institutions in improving the quality of programs and services on their own campuses through effective human resource administration practices.
Preference will be give to those achievements that have become or have the potential to become models for best practices for all of higher education human resources.
Each regional board will select a nominee for submission to the National Recognition Awards Committee. The national committee will then select an overall winner from among the nominees.
Nominations for the Excellence in Human Resource Practices Award must be submitted to the nominee’s regional board.
CUPA-HR Southern Region Scholarship
The Southern Region scholarship is awarded to an individual for the annual Southern Region conference. It is a waiver of all registration fees for the event.
Individuals wishing to be considered may be recommended by others or may self-nominate.
Grant recipients must be either CUPA-HR members or potential members who traditionally have not had the opportunity to attend CUPA-HR educational programs. The grants are intended for:
- Traditionally under-represented groups, and/or
- CUPA-HR members who have not been able to attend a regional conference.
In selecting recipients, CUPA-HR members take precedence over prospective members. Grants are not intended for individuals who have attended educational programs in the past or who have budgeted during the current year to attend CUPA-HR programs.
Meritorious Service Awards
New this year, Meritorious Service Awards recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the profession, their institutions and their CUPA-HR chapters. A significant contribution may include something innovative, service oriented or creative. The purpose of the award is to provide regional recognition to those individuals who have made significant contributions to CUPA-HR within their chapters. Nominees are submitted by the chapter leadership to the Chapter Liaison on the regional board. If more than one person is nominated from a chapter, the regional awards committee will make a selection based on the written information submitted.
