CUPA-HR Northwest Region Awards 2008

Each year, the members of our Northwest Region are asked to evaluate our hard working fellow members and make nominations for appropriate awards. Nominations are due by April 18, and will be reviewed by the regional awards committee and presented to the regional board for consideration. Presentation of the awards is made at the next Northwest Region Conference.


Excellence in Human Resource Management Award

This award acknowledges institutions of higher education that have established an institutional environment that recognizes creative and innovative approaches to human resource management. Nominations for this award must be made to the Region’s Board of Directors.

Award criteria includes:

  • Provides the resources necessary to maintain a current membership in CUPA-HR and participate in its activities.
  • Recognizes the importance of the human resource function within the organizational structure of the institution by establishing the head of the human resource department as a key member of the management team in the organization.
  • Shows receptivity to innovative approaches to human resource department activities and demonstrates a management philosophy that facilitates the development of progressive human resource programs.
  • The head of the human resource department demonstrates a style of administrative leadership that generates support of the human resource function from the administration, faculty, and staff.

Quality in Human Resource Practice Awards

This award recognizes members who have made significant contributions to the practice of human resource management. This award can be given in any of the following functional areas:

  • Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity
  • Benefits and Services
  • Compensation and Classification
  • Employment Services
  • Human Resource Information Systems
  • Human Resource Development
  • Employee and Labor Relations

Recognition award criteria include:

  • Practice implemented and in operation during the past three years.
  • Successful development and implementation of a different approach or a variation of a traditional process, procedure, or practice in one of the previously mentioned functional areas.
  • Creative management practices that will improve performance, advance the profession, and/or promote better understanding of human resource management.
